Summer of 2006 have proven to be the worst summer to dive the new wrecks on South Coast NSW.
With failed attempts to dive on the William Dawes and the Wear in January, a team that traveled on 22nd April missed out to dive on the Cumberland.
With four days available the team aimed to dive the wreck in order to use scooter mounted video cameras, and then film the entire area around the wreck. But the strong winds and rising seas stopped the boat leaving Eden port.
Keith Appelby traveled from Bermagui the day before our arrival and had to battle rough conditions on the way down. At one point the wind blew the round about inflatable off the boat and had to be retrieved.
With this last expedition affected by the weather, all future diving on the South Coast will be left for winter months starting late May.
The team will travel next to dive the new wreck that have been sounded of Bermagui in 125 metres. With possible indications that this may be the wreck of the Steamer Iron Knight.
More reports will be posted upon teams arrival back from the expedition after 27th May 2006. |
